What is Slow Food?

Slow Food USA strives to create a world where all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet.

The world is in crisis. The economic push for speed, growth and profit has created mega food systems that are unsustainable, lifestyles that feel harried and unhealthy, and a planet groaning under the pressure. Instead of building relationships around food, we make transactions. Instead of making food choices based on flavor and origin, we prioritize convenience. Instead of treating the Earth like the source of all life, we pillage resources from our planet.

Why Start a Chapter Here?

Given the enormous complexity of global food systems and generations of targeted oppression, there is no single solution. Instead, change happens when we cultivate trusting relationships, align around shared values, and work together for collective liberation. By starting the Tri-Cities chapter, we hope to connect more people with local farmers, educate our community about sustainable food choices, and create a network that supports both producers and consumers in making food decisions that are good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for our planet.

How Does it Work?

We have over 70 Slow Food USA chapters all across the country taking action to create a food system that works for them and their community. The Tri-Cities chapter board will meet once a month at The Philosopher's House in downtown Johnson City.
